Hello. I have a question regarding compatibility between my motherboard and a new CPU. I currently have an old Dell XPS Gen 3 computer with a Pentium 4 80547 LGA 775 800FSB, and I would like to upgrade it. I know by now, it's probably best to replace the computer all together, but let's say I just want to change the processor for a cheap boost. What's my best bet? It seems my motherboard has an Intel 925X Express chipset with a system clock of 800MHz.

From what I've researched, it appears that an Core 2 Duo E8400 is not compatible with my motherboard even if it is the same socket; is this true? If so, what's the best CPU I could get my old motherboard?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It doesn't look like you can get a Core2Duo.

Honestly, unless you can get a Pentium 4 for next to nothing, I wouldn't recommend investing money into such an old processor.

There are several revisions of the 775 socket, and the older ones are not necessarily compatible with newer CPUs.
