Two weeks ago, I was watching a video on pc and the video locked up and the whole os. I powered off the pc. When I powered it back on, no display, no bios, monitor light stays orange. No output what so ever. I immediately thought video card. I tried a a friends video card and same thing. I then thought system board. I bought a brand new system board, still nothing. And I went back to video card. Went out to Staples and bought a 9500gt video card, and still nothing. What else could this issue be?????
I had this exact same thing happen to me. The funny part is that I happened to be playing Crysis at the time on my old Pentium 4 with a 6800GT. I assumed (incorrectly) that my video card had died under the strain.
I ended up buying a new system since mine was pretty outdated at that point, but I later found out that it was a faulty stick of RAM that had caused the problem.
Borrow your mate's RAM (if they're compatible) to test if that solves your problem. Good luck.
I agree with kufan64. Faulty RAM would be my first guess. It's likely that only one stick is actually bad. You should be able to test this theory by trying each stick of RAM by itself in the first RAM slot.
Trying out a new PSU as aford10 suggested sure can't hurt; but aford10, what makes you think that the PSU is the source of the problem? Gut feeling? Past experience?
I'm assuming neither of your mobos have a system speaker. I'd recommend picking one up at your local computer store. The beep codes can be extremely helpful when troubleshooting especially if you can't see if it's even posting or not. They usually only cost a couple dollars. I got a kit for $15 that comes with a speaker, two buttons for power and reset, and two LED's for power and HDD activity.
If you and your buddy's systems are completely compatible, you could always swap out components one at a time until you find the one that is causing the problem...

Because the PSU is what powers the whole system. If the hard drive isn't spinning up, or any fans, it's tells me PSU. The OP didn't mention the specs on it, so I'm assuming it's nothing fancy. The PSU is one of the most likely components to fail and from my experience they seem to die when powered off (kinda like a lightbulb, turn off switch and POP, never to come on again).
I'm not saying I'm 100% sure it's the PSU, it's just a likely culprit.
I completely agree, but the OP never mentioned that his fans weren't spinning up, so I just assumed they still were. That's usually something that someone would be sure to mention if it wasn't happening anymore.
OP: If your fans aren't spinning anymore then it is almost certainly the PSU.
nope, all fans spin correctlyand light on mobo lights properly. I also have a system speaker hooked to the mobo. No beeps at all on boot. If i take the ram out it does give beep codes. so I have no idea what the problem is. Like i said no display at all, montior light stays orange.
Ok... that situation you just described is exactly like another problem I recently had which turned out to be caused by a bad motherboard, but you replaced that already right?
I'm still thinking it's the RAM. You said you tried moving the RAM sticks as well as another kit. Did you try booting with each stick of RAM by itself in the first RAM slot?
