Hi all,
I am looking to build a basic Windows Server 2003 file server with a RAID stripe (also need some advice for best RAID config to use for bang for buck). I need at least 1TB of total *available* space, but 1.5 or 2TB preferred. Thanks so much!!!
APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: By the end of 2009 (December probably)
BUDGET RANGE: $400-600 (cheap as possible)
SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Serving files to less than 15 computers in a basic Windows workgroup
PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Need everything except keyboard, mouse, monitor. Alternatively I also have a Dell Inspiron 530S desktop that I can re-appropriate. Not much room for drives but if getting a RAID controller is cheap enough I would consider going RAID 1
PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
PARTS PREFERENCES: None
OVERCLOCKING: Yes
MONITOR RESOLUTION: Any
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I'd like to keep the cost as low as possible, so if I'm better off upgrading my spare Inspiron 530s (if that's even possible) and going RAID 1 with 1.5TB drives, that's fine.
