Hello! Okay I'm slightly rusty at pc building but I'm thinking of building myself a new pc with a budget of not more than 600-700-ish Without a monitor. Now I've been searching around and I haven't seen any Intel i5 based gaming builds for that price. I am specifically searching to build a pc using an i5 processor and a gigabyte board or a dp55wb intel board (from Tigerdirect). Now having put together some trial builds on newegg I am sure I have been able to come up with something good around this budget but I'm kind of curious as to why such builds are not mentioned in threads especially as some of these have good combo deals attached to them. So I don't want to assume I've got it all figured out when I might be missing something. So here's my question: Can I construct a 700 based build using this combo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.280597 with this CASE
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811119137
HARD DRIVE http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6822148395
PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371015
and a evga gtx 260 core 216 I saw priced at $141. WOuld this count as a build worth the money? There is also a prebuild available at Tigerdirect.com for $559: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] CatId=4910
are there any disadvantages to these builds that are not plainly stated? If so though I am pretty much biased toward Intel, what would an amd based build of the same specification type cost?

This should be a good little PC

Maybe you should tell us what you want the PC for and what rez your monitor is

Also if you live by a microcenter we can save about 50 bucks more

Sorry bout that. I'd like to use the PC primarily for gaming and my 21.5" monitor has a max resolution of 1920 x 1080. I'm not much into overclocking yet but I'd like to leave the option open in the near future. I would prefer crossfire/sli capable mobos if I can get one in that price range but if not I would willingly go with a single, really good graphics card. Your build does pretty much cover what I'm looking for but can I ask why you recommended the ATI Radeon HD 5770 over the evga gtx 260 core 216 if I can get the latter at $150? Thanks.

The GTX 260 is a kickass card. Too bad its not DX11, but knowing nVidia, they'll add DX11 support, rebadge it and sell at a markup.

The HD 5770 is a decent card too, but is limited by its memory bandwidth.

Personally, I would still stick with the GTX 260 over the HD 5770.
I have 2 in SLI right now and love the way it performs. I play all games on max settings without any hiccups @ 1680 X 1050.

yeah.. and since with evga's step up program I can upgrade easily without worrying about purchasing a brand new dx11 card. But can anybody tell me what you think about the barebones build on the tigerdirect page?

Here's the cons in order of priority.

- The Ultra PSU is trash. Ultra no longer makes good PSUs as far as I know. If they do they should send them to the serious reviewers... but all reports are that they are junk.

- The case is unknown really. They seem to go out of their way to not show the motherboard tray. How much room is there between the front of the board and the HD cage? Enough for long cards?

- You won't be overclocking on the Intel board at all.

Follow Niklas_13 exactly except here:

RAM+Mobo Combo(if you don't care about sata,usb 3.0): Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2+G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)DDR3 1333 Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Comb [...] mbo.287671
OR
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P (if you care about usb, sata 3.0)

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB)DDR3 1333 Model F3-10666CL7D-4GBRH
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231276

Graphics: Gigabyte HD 5770 (This model is cheaper beacause only 3 years warranty compared to XFX version)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

Case: If you want to save some cash look here for some budget cases:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] rder=PRICE

You can save a little like this. BTW, the Intel motherboard you suggested is half crap if you compare it with the GA-P55M-UD2. My suggestion although buying a computer from newegg is more, its worth every extra $ more you spend.

BTW, Ultra PSUs are super crap from what I have heard, blowing up, etc.

EDIT: Its fine if you want the GTX 260 and willing to step up, but I had bad experiences with Nvidia cards from 7 series to 9 series desktop and laptop GC failing. But maybe GTX 200 series fixed it up? I don't know. But if you really want to do the step-up, get ready to pay some cash coz Nvidia DX 11(once it releases) will only be high-end for some time.

can he afford those mobos?

why you using 2x260 for 1680x1050, kinda overkill.

Yes I know all about eyefinity. The new Dell Ultrasharps come with lots of inputs... 2 DVI, 1 VGA, 1 Displayport, 1 HDMI, 1 Component. I've had these 2 GTXs for a while now. I'm waiting on some DX11 games or if nVidia has anything to compete with eyefinity to upgrade my cards. I want to get the Logitech G27 before getting new cards.

nvidia 3d vision is what nvidia has to compete with eyefinity
when nvidia cards are released they are going to be so expensive, because nvidia is favored by fan boys
