Will IDE and SATA work together?

Hello

I have an IDE 160GB hard drive. I plan to buy 1 terabyte or 500GB SATA harddrive

Will IDE and SATA work together? My motherboard is g41m p28 http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P28.html

I want to keep my IDE harddrive because all my files and OS are kept there and formatting and installing all the games, programs and etc is so tedious. Will installing a SATA harddisk on my motherboard work with an IDE?
