Daily use is not mandatory for prolonged life. Just use it a few times a week. After all, it is an electro-mechanical device. Occasional use is fine. Some of my drives are used just a few times a month, and after 5 to 8 years (different drives) the drives are fine. Seagate drives from a different era; may not be relevant today.
I mean, someone said some time ago that you should try to write no more than 5GB to a drive every day to prolong its lifetime. I don't know if this is true?
The less you use it, the longer it lasts, this is relevant to a lot of things, not just hdds. There is no specific number, it's pretty much a linear line of decay.

5 GBs is a lot of writing; just too much just on a daily basis. Just use it as you normally do and it will last a long time.
Look at the alternative. If you have to write a certain amount of data to the drive on a daily basis, what are your options? Just use it.
My i7-920 computer with 4 hard disks in ON for 10 hours a day, for over 22 months. Normal use if there is such a thing as normal.
