Ive been dabbling into over clocking, im currently running a modest 810mhz, 2022 mhz memory clock on my GTX 580 at stock voltage.Ive been planning on taking the next step and overclocking my 580 to a target speed of 850mhz. While ive done my research and im confident ill be able to reach those numbers and keep it stable im still confused on the memory clock.

When looking at a lot of other peoples overclocks on gtx 580's, i noticed that while some people were pushing there core clocks past 900mhz, mostly everyone kept there memory clocks below 2025 mhz. Is there a reason for this?

Does overclocking the memory clock not produce worthy gains? Is it dangerous?

for anyone interested that finds this thread i figured it out,

Basically, at least for the gtx580, increasing the memory clock adds minimal gains up to around ~4200mhz and then after that it actually lower peformance under that of stock speeds.

I over clocked my gpu to 850mhz i gained 10fps, when i increased the memory clock to 2050mhz i gained 1 fps on a few bench runs, and 0 a few times too.

I have the msi gtx 570 with the twin frozr 3 on it and I can get like 915 on my core with +93 Mv in afterburner but I hadn't touched my memory because it seems like no one else does either.. Mines at 2000, for an effective 4000mhz, should I clock it up a bit will I gain anything?
