Hey guys i have been racking my brain over what computer to buy/build, as i am not very computer savvy...but the i had a thought....TAKE IT TO THE FORUMS!!! I would like this:

A KICKASS gaming PC(NOTHING ELSE, AS I HAVE A MAC) for anywhere up to $2800 INCLUDING the monitor and keyboard and mouse(if this is too hard, dont worry. i would prefer a great PC than peripherals)

Must be parts from centrecom.com.au as i am australian, and trust this site.

Preferred parts : Intel core i-7 (920 and up, as i WANT A SOCKET 1366, FOR UPGRADABILITY)
ATI Radeon 5870 (if 2 can be squeezed in, which may be hard, please accomodate this when choosing PSU, CASE ETC)

I CAN NOT STRESS THAT THIS MUST BE A GREAT, KICKASS GAMING PC AND NOTHING MORE!!!! I DONT WANT TO KEEP SWITCHING PARTS ETC EVERY 6 MONTHS, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I REAAAALLLY WANT UPGRADABILITY, AND I WANT IT TO LAST A WHILE.

I.AM.NOT.LOOKING.INTO.OVERCLOCKING. i understand that the i-7 cards auto overclock, which is fine.

obviously parts must be compatible, and yes, i am looking into CROSSFIRE OR SLI(WHICHEVER GPU I CHOOSE)

parts will not be bought for a while, most probably next JAN OR FEB, so if you want to suggest a part but know its superior is being released soon, go for it(however i dont want things like "they say that it may be coming out", i want concrete answers, unless there is a lot of evidence supporting the theory)

Finally, please dont post 1 component posts. i would really like whole builds to be posted...

Thanks guys, please try and respond as i would like to know ASAP..

:)

What more do you want? Someone to link you directly to the .au site? Just check and see if they're available and what the final price is and then let us know.

sorry, but yes that would be nice. im not sure if you realise, but searching for specific things on an AU site is very difficult. ESPECIALLY when the search yields multiple products and you are not very computer savvy. Sorry for being an australian....

thanks...but what about the 1366 mobo with the socket 1166 cpu? do 1366 mobo's support 1166?

Reply to Gameraddict

sorry...i know this should be easy...but im pretty bad with coomputers.....do you mind suggesting suitable RAM, COOLER AND DVD DRIVE?

Reply to Gameraddict

thanks man, also and finally...is there a big difference between the 5850 and the 5870? except price?

Reply to Gameraddict

About 10-20% difference depending on the exact game or benchmark. I just listed the 5850 because of price concerns...

Here is what I would do: (I didn't look at parts for the above post so some may be the same) :D Don't need a aftermarket cooler since you don't plan to overclock, stock should be fine, then.

Intel Core i7-920 / 2.66GHz / 8MB Cache / LGA1366

Asus P6T-DELUXE-V2 Intel Mainboard - 6x DDR3 / 6x Sata Raid / Dual Gigabit Lan / LGA 1366

XFX HD5870 1GB, DDR5, 256bit, PCIE, Dual DVI-DL, HDMI (HD-587A-ZNF9)

Corsair DDR3 6GB PC-12800/1600 (3x 2GB XMS3) TR3X6G1600C7 Ram

Antec Nine Hundred Two - Black Ultimate ATX Gaming Case (No PSU)

Asus 24" VW246H BLACK LCD - 2MS / WUXGA 1920x1080 / D-SUB / DVI / HDMI / SPKS

Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard USB

2550.

Leaves some for mouse (personal preference more then anything) If you want an SSD, could trade down the 5870 to a 5850 and add a OCZ Vertex SSD and grab another 5850 later on. Or 2 5850's now. Or you can upgrade the PSU to modular or to an 850W as well.

Plenty of options with that much of a budget. And by Jan/Feb (also same time I will be purchasing mine, most of same parts I recommended as well) GT300's should be out by then, prices will fluctuate, etc. Revisioned 58** cards will be out, OC'd, etc.
