Hi guyz, i'm wanna build a computer with a ATI 5770. However, my monitor does not support HDMI and I cannot buy a new one as I will be over budget. So can I connet the 5770's output to my monitors DVI-D Input. I would really appreciate on any help. Thank you very very much in advance.

The 5770 has DVI outputs so I don't see the problem.

In that picture you can clearly see the DVI outputs.

So, unless you have a card made with only HDMI outputs (I don't think they produced something like that) you are safe.

If you refer to the DVI-I to DVI-D link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

Quote:
'The long flat pin on a DVI-I connector is wider than the same pin on a DVI-D connector, so it is not possible to connect a male DVI-I to a female DVI-D by removing the 4 analog pins. It is possible, however, to connect a male DVI-D cable to a female DVI-I connector. Many flat panel LCD monitors have only the DVI-D connection so that a DVI-D male to DVI-D male cable will suffice when connecting the monitor to a computer's DVI-I female connector.'

Yes it has both DVI-I connections and HDMI and DisplayPort, many of the HD5750 have 1 DVI and then another port of the other two types, but most have 2 DVI.

AS for the original question, yes there are adapters for HDMI to DVI, but it'll depend on the resolution if you need an active converter or not, anything above 1920x1080 you will need a more expensive active adapter to change the higher frequency HDMI into dual link DVI. Same with Display port. But it's still a waste of money if you don't need one.

ok so i dont need to buy a hdmi capable monitor or a weird dvi to hdmi cable? but is it ok that my monitor (model E198WFP) only supports 1440x900?Will any funny stuff happen? So no special cables, just ordinary stuff will do? and the cable must be dvi-d or dvi-i...i'm a little confused with the quote...

But if he doesn't need one he'll be fine with a DVI cable (most of which are DVI-D to DVI-D, whereas the connector on the video card will be DVI-I [to support both digital DVI-D and analogue DVI-A] and the connector on the monitor will be DVI-D which supports only digital in.)

The resolution is fine if that the LCD's native resolution, and is low enough (below 1080p) so that dual-link is not an issue so a passive adapter would've been fine too if you decided to go that route.

Some DVI info for you;
