Hey guys, currently i have a single RAD 5850 video card and i've been thinking about going CrossFireX so i could play games much better but the thing is, i want to crossfireX my current 5850 to a 5770 which im interested to buy (due to short budget instead of another 5850) im just not sure if it's possible to crossfireX these two video cards???

Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated, Thanks a lot in advance. :)

Not totally sure if you can crossfire all the 5000 series cards but cf'ing a 5850 and a 5770 would be a pretty bad idea I would imagine, probably woudnt add much to performance. Better off getting another 5850 son.

Thanks a lot for the response. :)

OK, so that means its not possible? But they say 5000 series Big bad Rads can be crossfireX
using two different models and i haven't heard that it cant be done or its forbidden coz
it will fry my PC if i crossfireX those two.
Though it makes me think, usually when i see a type of question regarding crossfire in the forums,
It gets a lot of response easily, but in this case its a different thing though still makes sense and
i think not only me wants to do this type of crossfireX'ing but some other gamer as well.
ATi or the manufacturer of my 5850 video card didn't include on its labeling of any info that says
it cannot be crossfireX to a 5770 or to some other much lower 5000 series models.

How about if i buy a 5870 instead and crossfireX it to my 5850?

Assuming the ATI 5xxx cards are smiler in nature when doing CrossFire, yes you can CrossFire a 5850 and a 5770.

And yes, you can CrossFire a 5870 and a 5850.

This may help:

^^the trend i get form the chart above is that the:
58xx series will crossfire with other 58xx cards,
57xx will go with other 57xx,
56xx with other 56xx... thats just my speculation

but the important part is that when you do crossfire say, a 5870 and a 5850, the 5870 will be downclocked to a 5850.(if i remember, thats how crossfire works) thus you will have wasted the difference in cost between the two cards and would have been better off with a 5850.

Thanks a lot for the response guys, you're all appreciated! :)

Its much clearer now that i can CrossFireX a 5850 and a 5770, though the
performance i'll get is like two 5770's but, still it is much faster than using a
single 5850.

I do not believe that this is possible to cross fire the 5850 and the 5770. They have different GPU's and also have different memory bandwidths, the 5700 series have 128-bit and the 5800 series have 256-bit. So if you do get the 5770 you will be wasting your money and just have two graphics cards that can each support up to 3 monitors but will not run in cross fire. There is also an article about crossfire and SLI here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/245454-33-crossfire-faqs.
