Computer starts up and then shuts off

Hello,
I have a Dell Penium 4 and it'll log on once I turn it on and it'll start up all normal.. Then it will go to user password mode only it won't allow you to enter a password?? And then when when you hit the user name it acts as if it wants to boot up but then logs off windows back to the user password screen can anyone please help me it would be greatly appreciated

If a recent occurence, a Windows Restore may fix it (restore prior to when it first occured.)
