I have looked, and am amazed that no one has come out or I should say that I
have not found any program that will turn a laptop cooling fan on? and keep
it on, I have a dell c640 with a pent-4m 2.0Ghz, and I tell you it gets so
hot on the bottom and right side I can not touch it, even the keyboard gets
very worm! I have bought some of the cool pads out there and they help but
my system still runs at around the 50c range. but the fan itself does not
come on too often, only when I am running a DVD of some game does it come
one often. so if someone knows of a prog. that is supposed to turn the fan
on in a laptop,.. well lets just say that I would be great.

Just as an aside, I am amazed with the heat management in my newish Thinkpad
T40p. It's 'only' a 1.6GHz Pentium-M, but it runs almost everything as
quickly as my officemate's 2.0GHz P4-M in a Dell. My previous Dell 4100
would cook me with only a 1.0GHz P3-M, but the Thinkpad, which is also
thinner, never even approaches the temperature of the old Dell. I can
easily use it for ours on my lap. Faster, thinner, lighter, cooler, and
cheaper. I keep pinching myself.

your 1.6 Pentium-M CREAMS your officemate's 2.0 P4.

Not surprising. Whenever people ask me what laptop they should buy, I
always ask whether they need their laptop to double as a space heater.
If so, I'll quickly suggest they get a Dell. :-)
