Careful, just because it says it's gonna be sold that day, it might not.
When I was desperately looking for a 4890 Toxic, Newegg finally put a release day after 2 months of waiting, but when the release date came, they delayed it and then took the product off the site without even selling one card several days afterward.

yea im thinking about a cheap solution now until later but i want to get decent fps in mw2 for 1280x1024
anyone have a alternative after reading the article on digi times it looks doubtful of getting a card before January
DUDE, you don't need anything above a 4870, even a 4870 is overkill for you. 1280x1024 resolution is so low...just get a 4850 and you can rape that game.
You should have mentioned this in the first place, as it would of saved us time and giving you an accurate answer.

it depends if you want directx11 support or not. if you do get the 5850 (if in stock), if you can't wait, get 5770.
if you don't care about directx11, get the 4890, it's cheaper than the 275gtx and faster.
can you post the parts of your computer? so i can check if you even have compatible parts..

if you are really getting a new monitor on February, then an option would be getting a 4850, because you can max settings for 1280x1024. Then when you get a new monitor, there are new video card options you could look at.
or get a 4890 now and get another 4890 when you get a monitor that's at least 1920x1080

If I were you I would buy the 4870 for about $150 and use that until you reach a point where it isn't good enough for you. My guess is that will be at least 6 months from now and by then you will have plenty of options available. The 4870 is a great card for your build and your usage needs.

You could get a 5750 for now and then move it to an old PC for HTPC/DVR when you get a new monitor and graphics card. For that matter you could get a really cheap 4650 or 4670 for $40-$70 and ebay it when you upgrade.

According to that article MW2 would suck bad, now it makes me don't want to get this game when it comes out.
