Multiple Monitors

I purchased 2 graphics cards so I could run 4 monitors on my desktop. However my computer is only recognizing one card so when I go to change the settings to activate all four monitors only two show up. Can anyone help?

what are the video cards?
are they in the same architecture? both are nvdia or ati??
