Hi there,

I have been wanting to build my own computer for a while now, but lacked the money and know-how but i finally saved up some cash and i want to build a high end gaming computer, i also to a lot of editing with photoshop and after effects.

My budget is around $2000 give or take.

I have been thinking about this for a while and i finally came up with the list of parts im looking to buy in order to build this thing.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: ASAP

BUDGET RANGE: Around $2000

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming editing surfing

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: have everything but the comp

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Canada

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: doesn't matter

PARTS PREFERENCES: intel/nvidia based.

OVERCLOCKING: Yes

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Yes

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 2 monitors, both at 1680x1050

Here it goes:

Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower - Case
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicat [...] =C283-1187

EVGA x58 SLI LE - Mobo
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicat [...] =E145-2059

Intel i7 920 - CPU
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicat [...] CP1-I7-920

Corsair H50 - CPU Cooler - CPU Cooler
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicat [...] sair%20h50

2 x WD Caviar Black 500G Hard Drives in RAID 0 - HDD
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] -_-Product

LG GH22NS50 - CD/DVD Drive
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicat [...] 1028%20OEM

Corsair Dominator 6g Tri Channel - RAM
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] -_-Product

Corsair HX 1000W PSU
- PSU
http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] id=PSU.830

2 x EVGA GTX 275 in SLI - GPU
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] -_-Product

I also have some additional questions:

Regarding the x58 SLI LE motherboard, if im running SLI with this board is there 2 PCIE x16 slots for the two cards? Iv seen some pictures and reviews of the board and some people say that all the slots are x16 and some say its x16 x8 x8 x4, so i just wanted to be clear on this.

Also i think this PSU might be a little overkill but i don't want to cheap out on my PSU, if you have any suggestions though i would be glad to hear them.

Ok well that's about it, thanks for any help/suggestions or tips towards this build. :)

You'd be fine with a 850W TX even if you added a third GPU. Also, don't get the dominators, just buy a set of OCZ/G.Skill 1600MHz/CL7 for cheaper. Yes, if you only have two GPUs they will run at x16/x16.

You are correct, with two video cards it will run x16/x16

Also, I agree with jbakerlent, just get the CL7 RAM and 850W TX

By the way, why 2x275gtx instead of 2x4890, 4890s are cheaper and faster, and you could get a cheaper/different mobo too.

Go for these Dominator GT's instead, couple bucks more, but better latency. Especially if you wanna stick with Corsair (like I will be), these seem way better for the money and overclocking.

With your budget you might consider including an SSD drive, which would speed up the computer noticeably. Another nice touch would be a Blu-Ray disc burner.

Alright thanks a lot for all your help guys.

Ill switch to the 850W and save some money for sure.

Also regarding the RAM, iv only ever bought corsair memory so im not to familiar with other brands. Whats the deal with OCZ and G.Skill are they good brands?

also would you recommended he OCZ platinum?

I don't really plan to watch blue-rays so no need for that.

I was thinking about getting a SSD for just my OS but they still seem way to pricey.

OCZ and GSKILL are good brands.

the corsair memory you picked is expensive and not worth it. 232 dollars for 6gb? i mean come on.

just get OCZ or GSKILL 1600mhz or 1333mhz with CL7

why not go with ati 5870 or 5850? :)

Reply to Derbixrace

Agreed. The 5850 outperforms the 275 and the 285 at a lower cost, lower power consumption and lower heat generation. The 5870 decimates both. Not to mention they support DirectX11, which the Nvidia's do not.

-since you said you want an Intel/nvidia based build. Wait a couple weeks or maybe a month for the new Nvidia DX11 cards and buy those as they will support DX11 and be more powerful then the cards available now.
-For your ram, instead of the overpriced dominator get
Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6GB Triple Channel Kit
^They are also expensive but they have better timings.
-You can also get a good quality 750watt PSU and it will run fine but i'd stick with an 800-850watt PSU just to be safe.
-Instead of doing the raid 0 wit those hard drives consider getting an SSD, yes it will have less space but a single good SSD will smoke your hard drives any time any day.

im considering the hd 5850 in crossfire

also what brand would you recommend? XFX, Asus or Sapphire?

Either is fine, but XFX has a better warranty.
