well, you should get 4GB of ram, 2GB may not be enough for some games

also, why not save the money for the i5 and the 5850

I agree with mindless about getting 4GB,its worth it,if you already haven't built a system then tell us your budget and maybe you can get i5 with a decent GPU,or IMO if you can't afford that combo right now again i agree with mindless, save your money and get i5 with the 5850,its worth it

well i don't have to buy any of the systems, i will get one for free and i wont be upgrading and 2gb is enough for xp it will just be running some games i don't care a *** about future proof because this is not my main pc i just wanted to know which of these systems can produce more fps or else i wouldn't have asked at all

which one is the best? tnx in advance

Tough call.

If you are willing to overclock, or will be getting a higher resolution monitor at some point, then I'd say the E8400/HD 5850.

But, running Windows XP, running at stock processor clock speeds, and gaming at 1680x1050 resolution, I lean towards Core i5/GTX 275. Shame you couldn't make that a cheaper Radeon HD 4980 and 4GB RAM.

PII-955 + HD5870 is the way for mainly gaming purpose PC.

The AMD system was extremely overpriced in NZ, but they magically dropped after I purchased my i5 with fixed 1156 socket m/b last week:(.

Now:

PII-955 + GA-MA790XT-UD4P = $544

i5-750 + GA-P55A-UD4P = $675.93 = $544 + $131.93

I could get more & better RAM or better gfx with extra $131.93 if I bought PII-955 system.

The OP said he only can choose between those options so if you want to recommend something, choose one of them :)
