Can a Dell Optiplex GX80,512MB RAM, successfully run Ubuntu 9.10 client AND connect to and share on a local LAN (redundant, I know). I know the OS can be a moving target, I just want to know if the hardware is up to the task or if there are needed work arounds. If this question is inappropriate for this group my apologies. Thank you. :o

Well it runs on a dual 400MHZ Pentium 2 systems with 1GB Memory and a 1MB intergrated card, the GUI didn't look nice but it ran and did it's job of file hosting amazingly well, even with heavy file transfers. That was 8.04 though can't really say how well 9.10 will work, since it has been retired. I would imagine just fine.

Thanks for your response, I almost forgot about that post;-) As it so happens it is actually a GX60 (hard to read). The answer is Yes. It has a Celeron 1.80GHz, no GPU to speak of, but the GUI looks and works just fine. There were a couple hiccups, but after a couple installations 9.10 runs well, so I assume the server version would as well. I'll need an external drive for space but otherwise am quite happy with the results. Aside from the ten bucks for the 512MG RAM it was all free and you can't beat that! Thank you again!
