First off let me say thanks to dndhatcher which has helped me tremendously come up with this list of parts. Also want to clarify that this computer is not going to be used for any gaming, so the integrated HD4200 should be sufficient, but I don't want to go any lower. If you guys have any other ideas or deals please let me know.

Although I think I am going to try to reuse my old HDD if possible. It is also a samsung 400gb though and has Windows Vista on it + all my files that i don't want to lose so I am trying to research whether I can use it or not as the master drive.

Let me know if you guys have any advice regarding different options to upgrade, compatibility etc.

-Good RAM choice

-Decent CPU, and the AM3 socket will be supported for years to come. So you can easily upgrade without replacing your motherboard.

-Excellent HDD choice, your old one is a lot less though. You should use the new 500GB Samsung as your main imo.

-Consider the Antec Sonata III. It comes at roughly the same price as your combo (the Sonata has a built-in 500w earthwatts PSU). The 300 illusion is mainly a gaming case and has a disco look. The Sonata III is far more silent, has a top quality psu and looks good (imo). It also is cooled more than good enough. Of course, your current choice will also do nicely.

Altogether a great choice of components.

Hey silma thanks for the reply. I checked out the Sonata case, pretty sweet deal. The only thing is my last pre-built HP overheated. According to the reviews the Sonata only comes with 1 fan, a better PSU though.

Damn I put in the order last night and had a shot of buyer's remorse this morning because I didn't think I put enough effort. Now the memory sticks are out of stock, can anyone help me find a comparable deal that is still compatible? I have read that DDR3 is tricky.

The sonata III has a very good airflow and the parts posted above aren't very hot. If you feel insecure, you can add another 120mm case fan.

This memory offers the same price and performance. Don't know much about Crucial though, they're rarely used in Europe. I've heard it's a good quality brand though.
