Compaq won't power on

I HAVE A v2000 When I press the power button it only comes on for a few sec. Then off. I put on a new Dc jack new battery same. But before all this stated the computer was doing this but after a while it would come on. then the touch pad got warm then nothing. could this be the mother board? or just the processor

Well, something's dead. Unfortunately, it's not like you can pop off the side and start swapping parts.
