Hi!

First thread on this site and I don't know much about computers but when I recently played Dragon Age I went into the Catalyst control center and saw that the activity on my ATI Radeon 4850 was at 75-80 (almost at the "red" part). The temperature was at about 70-75 I think (at the yellow part). Should I be concerned and what could potentially happen?

No, that's normal activity occurring when you play a demanding game like Dragon Age. Nothing serious is going to happen unless the card reaches 85 and above. You'll be fine.

If you don't want high activity and very low temps, then don't play games.

Modern GPUs are often work up to 90C beyond that then you should be concerned.

Don't worry about Graphics temps unless you start getting data corruption on the screen.

Unless the heatsink is improperly mounted or the fan fails things will be fine. In either case you'd get data corruption so since you do NOT have it you are fine.

This makes me concerned...I'm playing at the lowest graphics, and my card goes up to 100+ sometimes. I've had it crash more than once, to the point where when I try restarting my computer by pressing the restart button, the mobo actually gives me the beep warning for a bad video card.

I have my fan running at 100% when I play the game as well. :/

Sounds like the heatsink is not seated correctly and/or might be cracked. If you can still RMA it, do it. That way you don't have to deal with trying to adjust it yourself.

Check for dust inside your case. You may also need to clean off the thermal paste and apply a new layer.

I just recently cleaned my computer. My CPU goes up to high tempts (50 at idle) but that's because I'm using stock fan and sink and my Sonata case isn't particularly made for cooling.

I just got the serial off of my card. Visiontek offers lifetime warranty, so I'm going to see what they say about the temperatures.
