Hdmi connection from laptop to tv on widows xp

I have hdmi port in laptop and windows xp professional installed on my laptop. when i connect the hdmi cable from tv to lap top my lap top screen becomes blank and on tv it is showing "unsupported audio device". Kindly tell me how to connect my hdmi laptop to tv.

Click the function key to have both screens on at the same time. Hopefully the video driver will detect the TV and adjust accordingly. The TV message is weird though, is it hdmi on both ends or hdmi to rca plugs ? Go to desktop, right click properties and settings, see if you can change between laptop display and TV.
