My Motherboard:

PCCHIPS a15g v1.0...(a cheap budget motherboard, yes)
BIOS: Phoenix-Award Workstation BIOS v6.00PG 8/7/08
currently running: an AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ Brisbane @3.1ghz

*Before I go on, there are three versions of this motherboard. they are as follows:

PCCHIPS a15g v1.0
PCCHIPS a15g v1.0, AMI
PCCHIPS a15g v2.0

1st problem: I upgraded my cpu, but here's the deal: Turns out I bought a cpu compatible with v1.0 of this board on Ebay. One week later it arrives, and it is the wrong cpu. I ordered a 3.0ghz Windsor, and I was shipped a Brisbane instead. Pissed, I decide to go ahead and install it anyway (note: this motherboard is NOT supposed to be compatible with the Brisbane version of 6000+, it doesn't even appear on the list)...IT WORKS. Computer starts up, no crashes, no issues, no nothing. my reaction to this was: @#$% yeahhhhhhh!!! and ???????.

2nd problem: On the motherboard there is the name and version number printed clearly in white: a15g v1.0, kapish.
but, upon opening cpu-z for the first time I notice that the version number there was v2.0. Beleiving cpu-z was in error, I decide to download another program called PC Wizard 2010. I open it, and sure enough it says the same thing...v2.0.
Another thing...I looked at the supported cpu list for v2.0 and there it is...AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ Brisbane is supported. my reaction to this was: wtf? do I have version 1.0 or version 2.0 of this motherboard...I just don't $%^^ get it! this is supposed to be version 1.0, so why does it say v2.0 and is compatible with a brisbane???

*question: What is going on here? is this version 1.0 or 2.0?

There is a very good reason to ask this question because the a15g v2.0 is supposed to be backward compatible with an AMD Phenom II 945 AM3 C3 stepping cpu, that is listed on its supported cpu list...gee I wonder if I could upgrade to that? anyway, I won't be able to find out until I clear up this mess. thanks for reading = )

I would check the bios on your board. The board I have used often, if not always, list their bios version as post or some other way. Find it if you can and compare to the BIOS for each board. It may be the later revision was incorrectly labeled on the PCB.

I have actually found out more about this problem since I started investigating. First of all Version 1.0 and 2.0 are EXACTLY THE SAME MOTHERBOARD as far as structure goes...socket, ram slots, pci-e. Everything is located in the same place, same chipset, and they are the same size...even same drivers, and same exact features. The only thing that's different is the "thing" that updates the motherboard to v2.0, which I am guessing is the BIOS itself...

If what I am thinking is true...I don't even have to update the BIOS in order for that Phenom II to work, and if it doesn't, then I can just flash the BIOS with the BIOS for v2.0, and it would become a FULL v2.0 motherboard, you get what I'm saying?

This is obviously a factory mistake where a 2.0 motherboard was labeled wrong somewhere along the line...the only thing I am not sure of is the BIOS.

What do you think should I try that Phenom II? Nothing is going to happen to it, its just not going to POST. In that case I can try that BIOS thing I just mentioned...Or I can just get the v2.0 motherboard, f*ck it, they're worth 30 bucks anyway = )
