Im planning on building a home system. I want to play games on it, but I also want to occasionally edit video and build comps in nuke and combustion. I was going to put a Quadro FX 580 in it, but I dont think that will be suffecient to play some of the more intensive games.

I was wondering if I could install something like a GeForce GTX as my main graphics card, and switch over to the Quadro FX when I wanna run OPEN GL heavy stuff.

Or maybe the Quadro FX 580 can hold its own in games?

Any thoughts?

You have to make a hard choice but I would go with a gtx due to budget and gaming performance unless you can afford a higher end quadro than the one you put up. The 580 is weak so what do you think of a quadro fx 5800?

Hmm, well... I think its about $2.5k outside of my budget.

But, that doesn't really answer my original question. I was curious to know if you could have two video cards installed on the same system, and just switch between the two at will.
