the (online)manual of ati sucks
by the way! no technical explaination what so ever!

Yes, you have to connect both power connectors. Since the 4870 has to be backward compatible with PCI-E 1, only 75W can be guaranteed to come from the MB, 75W from 1 power connector (150W so far) and the remaining small bit needs the other power connector. And what do you mean one for fan power?

Normally you can get an adapter to go from 2 molex to 1 PCI-E power, but what is your power supply?

This is what i am referring to:

One may actually come with your card. But, check first to make sure your PSU can actually power that much card.

well in the manual is written that the 4870 needs 500w or even beter 600w and my shuttle only got 450w.so i'm afraid that i need to buy another power supply, but i wanna test it first if it works on 450w,
it runs on an duocore 2x3000mhz an has the maximum of 2gb of memory to drive on!also the shuttle doesnt need to mutlitask, and ife bought an dvd/rw with minimal power requirements to try to compensate power for the card

What is the brand/12V amperage specs of the PSU? A good 450W could handle it, but a no name/low 12V amperage PSU will have problems at high load.

also ife turned around the 2 back fans to create cool air flow into the shuttle and i have just enough room to fit an Zalman ZM-F2 Green LED fan (92mm with 2.800 rpm)
int the middle of the suttle!

The two back fans are designed to exhaust the air from inside the case. You shouldn't change them.

And the Shuttle PSU has enough power for the 4870.
