I plan to purchase a new monitor come Black Friday. I want to get a 1920x1080 monitor so I can watch HD content. However, I plan to game at 1680x1050. If I get a 1920x1080 monitor, will I be able to set the resolution to 1680x1050 with borders so the image isn't stretched? I prefer not to play in window mode. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You should find a monitor that supports 1:1 pixel mapping which is a generic term.

Brands may call it different things though. For example, my NEC calls it ASP for "aspect ratio".

You can use the video drivers to setup 1:1 pixel mapping. For ATI cards launch Catalyst Control Panel and do the following (before or after you change resolution):

1. Select the monitor, "Digital Display"
2. Go to Attributes
3. Check off "Enable GPU Scaling"
4. Select "Use centered timings"
5. Click "Apply" or "OK"

I picked up an Acer 21.5" 1920x1080 for $84 and a PNY GTS 250 1GB for $73. I downloaded the latest drivers, but I don't see an option to disable GPU scaling in the Nvidia control panel. Does anybody know how?

This is from the Nvidia Control Panel Help:

1. From the NVIDIA Control Panel navigation tree pane, under Display, click Adjust desktop size and position to open the associated page.

2. Click the image that represents your flat panel display, or non-HD digital display connected to the HDMI, DisplayPort, or DVI connector.

3. Select Do not scale, then click Apply.

I'm able to follow steps 1 and 2. However, step 3 is not even displayed as an option for me. I'm using WinXP 32-bit SP3. My Nvidia Control Panel version is 2.8.254.08. Do any of you see step 3?
