i cant figure out to get sound from my computer to my headphones

Make sure Windows Audio Service is set to Automatic & Started. (Run services.msc) Scroll down to Windows Audio Double click, start the service. And it should be set to "Automatic"

Sending sound to headset is a hardware function by plugging in the jack and breaking a circuit to the speakers.
