Installing fresh w7 into a new mobo with an old HDD and keep files?

So I jumped on the i5 deal from Microcenter forcing me to buy a motherboard to go along with it. I was wondering if I were to put this hard drive in into the new build, would it be possible to install a new copy and w7 and keep my files saved?

When moving to a new motherboard, it is recommended that you do a clean install of windows as the previous copy will not have the correct drivers for the new motherboard.

Yes, you can. Take in consideration that when installing W7, you opt not to format the disk, but replace the OS installed.
