I use a Sony KDL-37XBR6 television (37" 1080p LCD TV) as my primary computer monitor, since my setup integrates my computer and home theater system. Until recently, I hooked my computer up to the TV via a DVI-to-HDMI cable, using a GeForce GTS 8600.
Recently, I upgraded to a GeForce GTS 250 graphics card. I still hook the system up to the TV via a DVI-to-HDMI cable. The drivers with my new card came with a new version of the NVIDIA Control Panel. The card (apparently) identifies my computer as a PC to the TV.
The problem with this is that the Sony TV disables several picture settings when the device connected to it is identified as a PC. The main issue is that Sharpness is disabled, but several key color settings are also disabled. This is very annoying since it makes text look worse and throws off the picture quality for Hulu, Netflix, etc.
The older NVIDIA Control Panel had an option to have the display make all picture adjustments (or at least that's what I remember). The TV did not identify the source as a PC with this option chosen and I could adjust all picture settings. I can't figure out how to do this with the new version.
I've figured out a workaround, which involves going to NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Change resolution. There I change Connection to "HDMI - HDTV (Audio Enabled)" and then immediately change it back to "HDMI - HDTV (Audio Disabled)". I guess this tricks the TV, since it then forgets the source is a PC and unlocks all picture adjustments. Unfortunately, I have to redo this EVERY time the computer is reset or the display goes to sleep.
Anyone have any suggestions? Essentially, I want a way to permanently have the NVIDIA card let the TV adjust all settings and not identify the source as a PC.
