My motherboard is broken?

My motherboard just went dead, I believe, in my gaming computer. None of the back port I/O works, and the none of the front panel I/O works either, and I believe the sata ports are dead too, because it could not detect the hard drive. Over the last couple of days the USB and sound has been in and out, and its been really buggy. Today, the computer still posted but did not boot into windows. The computer is about 2 years old, and i'm not sure what to do, whether to buy a new motherboard or just save up and do an mobo, processor and memory upgrade.

My system specs:
Athlon 64 X2 5000+, overclocked to 2.9Ghz
2Gb DDR2 667Mhz cas 8
EVGA GTS 250 512Mb
Foxconn 740G A74MX-K --
Kingwin 660W modular psu
320Gb WD caviar blue

any suggestions?

  1. Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Do u test the RAM one by one?
  2. Well, if it doesn't work out, I suggest a new CPU/motherboard/RAM upgrade. Something like an Athlon X3 435 770/880G chipset based motherboard and 2x2GB of DDR3 RAM would work out great.
  3. Which X2 5000, Windsor or Brisbane?

That board is a 95 watt board. If its a windsor, 2.9 would likely draw 140 watts. If I had to guess, I would say you killed the board. But that is not certain.
