I have a bit of a dilemma looking for PC components that fit my bill and the case is the bit I am struggling with.

Background to my issue:

I currently have an ASUS EEE Box running Windows Homer Server and I have 2 hard drives connected to this via USB using an Icybox (1x750GB Samsung F1 + 1x250GB Generic) these are added to the WHS storage.

I am streaming this media to my PS3 and upto 2 other machines.

I have found that I am coming up against issues with disk performance in this setup. My scenario is that I have 50Mb broadband and if I am downloading say 2 large posts 40 GB each then when one is unpacking the disk is limiting my download speed between 1 Mb and 25 Mb.

What I would like to have is a cheap system that can do RAID 5 and I need it to be able to sit in the front room.

I have plenty of RAM and a PSU knocking about

However I am struggling with a cheap mobo that supports RAID 5 and a case that is small enough to have in a front room.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Your disk performance issue is likely a USB performance issue. You may not need RAID 5 unless you were hoping to get it setup.
