Is the renamed x2 variant that we shouldn't jump to conclusions about the renaming of as it has yet to be released?

Yea, they came out first as the 5970x2 then renamed it.
Oh wait, its just now coming out.
As to the low clocks and high ocing claims, its true, but they had to achieve the PCI 300 watt restrictions, if a consumer ocees it, well, thats their business

There will be a few people looking for employment if it isn't.

This is true.
Remember, this card has to reach PCI compliance, thus the low clocks, but open it up to 1Ghz, itll eat anything out there.
Its a full 5870x2, just lower clocks for the compliancy

Does it come with a flux capacitor? or is that an an add-in option? :D

I wonder what (2) of these in crossfire will do? besides create a tear in the space/time continuum?

Yea, the length is quite long, I believe, but again, most people wont have problems, as their rigs should have decent cases

well, i use a cheap rosewill case (actually toms used it in a SBM), i don't think i could fit a card that long, though i would have to measure my case

I would have to remove my hard drive cage to fit this in. It's so huge. I just want someone I know to buy one so I can hold it.

I'd install a 2nd 5870 if it came done to it though. But then again I'm not trying to break any records. I had to convince myself to drop $400 on the 5870 as it is. haha.

idk, for an extra $200 (50%) you can get close to 2x the power, so ithink for $600 this is a good deal

considering i thought this was going to be an $800 card

I got my 5870 literal right in the nick of time. They were sold out and saw it pop up after 2 days of watching. Now I see NO stock of this anywhere. I think it was actually $10 cheaper when they first came out.

If you bought a 5770 over a 5870, wouldn't you have already shelled out the beans
for the better card? Now you want to get the $600 card? That doesn't compute with me. :kaola:

Simple reason I bought 5770s:

No 5800s in stock = no 5800s in new rig

I just can see some guy making the mistake of using a screwless option in their case install of that thing and finding it broke off 1 week later asking if he could superglue it back together.

super long cards scare me...

It's a nice toy to have for Christmas. But what CPU can push it to its limits especially in a Crossfire rig?

This card length issue can be funny, size doesn't matter ! lol- In the end I would think the pcb length is increased for heat sink size and extra voltage circuitry ? All 5 series cards have the one chip and same memory (except for this new monster). But yet all the cards in this series , have been longer than the other, like BIGGER is better. lol
Does a 5870 really have to be bigger than a 5850, which is in turn longer than a 5770 . Just voicing my ramblings.

You are corrent as to why tehy are bigger, high quality parts for power regulation do take up some space. At the least teh 5870 would have to be more dense. Cost is a big thing as well, if you are having to put more larger bits on, it is cheeper to spread it out on a larger PCB isntead of crammign everything on an extra layer. Finally, Given that noone woudl accept a 3 slot card, longer is the only direction they have to work on better cooling.

i wonder how many years before our graphic cards no longer fit inside the chassis. We'll probably have them lying outside the chassis with their own power generator running.

well worst case senario, use a full tower case an cut out everything in front of the motherboard with a drmel, that should give ~24" of clearance

Oh man, I was convinced that I wanted to tri-fire 5770s in my new build this January, perhaps I should go with a cheaper single PCI-E mobo and this beast, heh.

I can see it now...

[person with Dell Optiplex posts]: Will the 5790 fit into my rig? i'm looking to upgrade...

In all seriousness, the IT leader at my work ordered a GTX295 for a dell machine that's a mini-atx MoBo and the power supply is 305w with NONE PCI-E connectors! This IT person gets paid double what i get paid!!! Also, it's weird, he looks exactly like his wife and they're not related by blood... it's kinda creepy, LMAO.. Sorry, i'm just venting, it's a dirty game y'all...

Yes this will be very interesting. if it is correct and these cards do come out in numbers in a couple of days time then we will know that the 5870 shortage was nothing but ATI wanting to keep chips back for these cards.
If that does turn out to be the case then i will be very disappointed with them. Despite my own personal position on the new cards and their price/performance, they really are a very good product and to be honest they probably could have charged even more from the start and they would have still sold out the demand for these parts is very strong.
It now seems obvious that they are looking to maximise profits again, cant say i blame them really but i do wonder just how big the market is for a card that will cost that much given the economy at the moment.
Personally i would have made hay with the 5850/5870 parts for now and released this card to counter Nvidias next card.

Well, despite what I said above, I think that the shortage has little to do with these cards, as I can't imagine they would be stupid enough to think super high end duals will ever have enough market to make serious income, regardless of price. Though, if there are tons of these by launch and still no 5870/50's in sight, that will look pretty suspect. I think however, that by the time we see these in bulk, the single GPU cards will also start to reappear.

I think it's going to be easier to get one of these than a single gpu version, just because there won't be that much demand for these monsters.

I miss the days of my 2 slot sli my lovely little 6800 only take up 2 slots

I was slow to accept dual slot cards but performs of 8800gts was just too much later i when back to 1 slot 8800gt's

Just you wait you may think you wont accept 3 slot cards but then some bullshit will rear it's head.

I want my pci slots! some people use them ya know.
