Can't install XP on wiped hard drive

Hello,
My son's computer died, so we went to a recycle place and brought home a used one. It's been wiped, but I have my old XP CD, so no problem. Except the system wants an older version of Windows, which I don't have any more. I know I've done this before, but I don't remember how! How do I install my XP without 95 or some other version pre-installed (or disks?) Many thanks.
