Memory Voltage question

Last response: in Motherboards

Hello,

Gigabytes website is telling me to use 1.8V memory but yet I go on tigerdirects website and Crucial's website and I see some memory come up that is 2.0V and even on a lot of Tigerdirect pages they don't even list the volts. I am wondering if I install in my computer the Crucial Ballistix ram which is 2.0V will I have any overheating issues at all? I even did the memory finder.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

1- What mobo do u have?
2- Currently I'm running 4GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer 4-4-4-12 @ 1.8V without problems, u can do the same.
3- U should not have problems, since the problems start with 2.1V or more.

Hey Saint19,

my Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H currently I am running 2 Gb's I am looking to put 8GB I want to get the Crucial Ballistix I just am afraid I am going to fry my board or something lol so if I get the Ballistix ram it will run at 1.8V? I wish tiger direct listed Voltage on a lot of its pages that would be nice.

1- Why do u want install 8GB?, today with 4GB is enough for games and applications.
2- Yeah, my current RAM is running at 1.8V without problems. Besides of that, the 2.0V will not fry ur mobo.

I figured for games I would do 8GB but maybe you are right I can probably get away with 4 GB and in the future if need be add on more or something. You have been a big help Saint19 I appreciate you're response.
