I'm getting ready to build a new gaming box with a single 295 GTX and an i7 920. Any favorite brands of power supplies for bullet proof construction and reliability?
PC Power & Cooling with similar specs would be good too. Newegg doesn't seem to have very many options atm but I don't know where you will be shopping.
This is a good start and if you pick any of these it will be plenty for your system...

Its a good psu if you are staying with a single card, if you are considering a dual card setup then the Corsair 750 watter is nice for another 40 bucks and is 60 amp on the 12+volt rail. 5 year warranty to boot!

There's $50 difference between the OCZ and the 750w Corsair.
Don't get me wrong, I think very highly of Corsair. They are top notch quality, and have reasonable prices. But OCZ has made a nice splash in the PSU business and has even better prices.
To answer the OPs question though....The top quality PSU manufacturer's are: PC power and cooling, Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, and OCZ.
I would say target practice would be the only good use for it. Cheap PSU's are built so light weight that they wouldn't even make a good paperweight. I wouldn't want to risk scratching the paint on my door by using one for a door stop either.
The two online spell checkers found no spelling errors if you change the y to an i, justifiably. I don't know that I have ever used it that way, usually is with an e instead of a y.
