Front panel sound from MB or sound card?

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Motherboards Front panel sound from MB or sound card?

Hey,

In the front of my case, I have a plug for headphones, which I have connected to the motherboard. I also have an older sound card (Audigy 2) that I've installed in a PCI port.
I was wondering if the sound I'll be getting when having headphones plugged into the front panel is from the sound card or the onboard motherboard sound?
I would imagine the motherboard isn't smart enough route the sound from the sound card, but I figured I would check with the experts.

Thanks in advance!

connect it to what ever sound card your speakers are connected to.

The thing is that my sound card did not have a connection that fit with the cable. It may be because it is an older card?
It only had a 3-pin connector, whereas the connector I put in the motherboard was 4x2 pins (with one corner missing a pin) - if I recall correctly.

It is not a big deal, I don't think I will be able to tell a difference with the sound, but I got curious.
