Hello m'learned friends,
question is in the title. Was just daydreaming watching the prices of 4890's getting better and wondered what CPU would be needed (if there is one) to get the best out of two of these cards?
Answers on a postcard please.

Are you budget limited in any way?
What screen size/resolution(s) does the question cover?
And last - what games do are you focused on?
For example - if you're going to be playing Left 4 Dead, Devil May Cry 4 and F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin @ 1920x1200 there really is no point in going with 2x 4890s when 1 4890 gets you 80+ FPS (max game graphics and AA/AF) with a slightly overclocked $125 quad core CPU.

i used to think getting a second 4890 would solve my gaming problems, untill i realised i just needed to upgrade my cpu, (AMD PhenomII x4 965 s3 125w is on my list for Santa), but i still want another in just for bragging rights, lol.
Id like to ask though ac3144, is there a specific system you were thinking about? AMD or (not so) intel?

I guess, if you want intel the i5 750
since I think the amd 965 is kinda sad...you don't get that much more performance that the Phenom II 940....
I also think the 965 might actually be the limiting factor on that build :o

955 with O/C; spend the extra money you save over the 965 on a good heatsink. Don't let the i7 people tell you that it's gonna cause a bottleneck... for gaming the i7 920/850 and 955 barely make a difference. Also, I think there's some voodoo to an AMD/ATi combo as compared to an Intel/AMD combo, call me crazy. ;)

Well I actually mean the Phenom II 965 might bottleneck if he doesn't overclock that's all

bottlenecks at the high end cpu level can always be eliminated with OC
gaming 955 965 vs i5 i7 no real difference esp using 2 4890's
