Avg and windows xp issues

Since doing our recent AVG business anti virus update installation on our 3 networked computers, we cannot get our network to work. One of the computers acts as a server. Our IT guy thinks he damaged our drives somehow and he cannot solve the issue.

can the data be access on the server itself?

The network will work as long as I do not have any anti virus on any of the computers. Once I add any anti virus, AVG or Microsoft, then the network fails again.

it sounds like a firewall or Virus issue to me.

once you installed the AV program did you try disabling the Firewall?

have you scanned the computers for rootkit, virus and spyware in Safe Mode.

I use the following softwares in Safe Mode with Networking in this order

rkill http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill
TDSSkiller http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.zip
Malwarebytes download, install, and update, decline the trial period, and do a full scan

My 2 different IT guys have practically given up. We tried support at AVG and they said they could help but we would have to pay them for it. We decided to dump AVG for that reason. Still up in the air. Network still not functioning!
