Originally, I was planning on getting a i5-750 CPU from amazon.com for $199.99. Then I heard that Microcenter has the i7-930 for $199.99 if you can buy it at one of their stores. I live very far away from Microcenter, but have a buddy that doesn't live to far from it, and I can probably get him to buy me one, and the next time he's in town, drop it off for me. The thing is, I started looking at motherboards for the i7-930, and they seem to be dramatically more expensive than the motherboards I was looking at for the i5-750.
Is this a big downside with going with a i7-930? You get increased power, but have to go with a much more pricey motherboard? Or maybe the motherboard that I happened to be looking at for the i7-930 just happened to be really pricey, but they aren't all like that. Normally, I always think that I'm going to have to spend about $100 on a motherboard, but the one I was looking at was over twice that amount!
This is for a budget (relatively) gaming PC build. I'm likely to either get a HD 4850, 4870 or 4890 1 gig video card with this. The ram would be 4 gigs, but I've been hearing something about triple memory channel with the i7-930's, so maybe I would need 6 gigs?
