Hi all,

Can anyone point me towards a recent SATA drive round up and/or give me some advise please?

I am looking for a new 1TB SATAII drive to replace my WD Caviar Blue 500GB drive (7200rpm, 16MB cache). I use this for my system and data, therefore I am looking for something with a performance edge.

I have two Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB hard drives (SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache) that I use to back my data up in rotation (via a drive bay - one in a fire safe when not used).

The Samsung drives benchmark much quicker than my WD Blue. I am wondering whether to just buy a third Samsung HD103SJ or if there is something better out there?

I was considering a 1TB WD Caviar Black (SATA-III 6Gb/s 7200rpm 64MB Cache) but read they are very noisy, which is a put off.

I don't mind paying for a premium drive for the main drive, but for the capacity I want am definatelly looking at traditional drives not SSD.

Any suggestions?

TIA
Graham

Any suggestions?

Are the Samsung drives I am using for data as a good a performance choice as any for my system drive (without paying a lot more)?

I am tempted by a WD VelociRaptor but I am not going to gain much capacity for a hefty price tag and I think they are as noisy at least as the Caviar Black drives.
