Hi. I have a Q9550 cpu and want the best o/clock motherboards / memory combination for it.

Is the P35 the best chipset for this CPU?
Cheers

x48 is the best chipset for this chip, I doubt you will ever find one, your best bet is a p45 by asus or gigabyte

The best overclocking motherboards for the Q9550 are long gone, what's available today at lets say Newegg are really a joke, about the only thing available are G41 chipset Micro-ATX motherboards, and not really sure of the overclocking capabilities of what's available even have.

Motherboards like the ASUS Striker II Extreme 790i and EVGAs and XFXs 780i offerings were the best of the best, you may be able to find one on Ebay, but for what you will pay for it, you could probably build a Sandy Bridge Setup.

I had a Striker II Extreme myself overclocking a Q9550 and reached a 4.0ghz overclock, but the overclocking capabilities of the motherboard made all the difference, and you just don't have that available today.

Thanks mate. I have installed the chip into a Gigabyte GA-p35-Dq^ motherboard and it instantly improved the FPS on battlefield 3 from 24 FPS to 48 FPS over the old cpu which was an Intel E6600/

So there is no doubt in my mind that BF3 does love a quad core cpu.

Thanks for the advice.
