APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within the next month BUDGET RANGE: up to 1000 (the lower the better)

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, movies, internet

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, mouse, monitor, case, hard drive, optical drive, OS

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg, microcenter

PARTS PREFERENCES: Core i5/i7, Gigabyte/ASUS

OVERCLOCKING: Yes - thinking somewhere around 3.6/3.8 as far as the CPU goes

Maybe SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Not now but would like to keep the option open

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Currently only have a 1440 res monitor but will most likely upgrade to a 1080p in the not so distant future

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
I know roughly what I'm looking for but I'm having the most problems with the following:
-The motherboard is the biggy. Needs at least 2 PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots. Good overclocker. Do I want to get one with SATA 6 and USB 3.0 ports?
-Is it worth going from an i5-750 to an i7-860? The only difference is hyper-threading and a 140MHz clock speed, right?
-I currently have a corsair 500W PSU. So depending on how the build pans out that might effect graphics card choice but if an upgrade fits into the budget then why not...

Sofar I'm thinking the following:
Cooler: Xigmatek Dark Knight ~$45
CPU: i5-750 or i7-860 ~$200-$290
GPU: anywhere in the range from a 4890 to a 5870 (doesn't have to be ATI) ~$180-$400
Mobo: not sure about a specific model ~$170-$250
RAM: again not sure about specific models but I'm assuming 1333 would be appropriate for the OC I'm trying to achieve ~$70-$90

That ranges from roughly 650 to 1050 so should be within budget but I'm guessing a 5870 or equivalent card would require a new PSU.

Its a little early for sata 6GB and USB 3.0. You should be able to get a pci expansion card with those once they become useful anyway.

If your Corsair 500 isnt too old and has two PCIE power cables it should run a single 5870 and handle light overclocking. Otherwise a Corsair 750 or Antec TruePower 750 would be a good upgrade to eventually handle two high end graphics cards.

A post I made on another thread comparing Intel and AMD for the same matter.

The problem is that you need to pay an extra for a third stick of memory, a huge amount for a utterly expensive motherboard and a extra for the cpu caliber.

To tell you the truth, when it comes to gaming, the difference between AMD and Intel isn't so impressive... but the price is.

Going LGA1366 will make you shed around 250$ more than with AMD.
Going LGA1156 will be around 100$ more than AMD.

Anyway, if you don't plan to put enough graphic horse power with your LGA1366, you will end up paying for nothing because you will gain no benefit.

Single GTX260 compared with each cpu.

Gigabytes higher end 1156 m/b that features those two options come with expansion boards in the box, thats as of right now. Probably rev 1 of these products, they wanted to include these new technologies. But just to let anyone know they can add the same things.
