SAMURAI-Z Rev.B cooler ... good for Core Duo 2 E8400??

Hi,

I'm upgrading from a P4 single core to a Core Duo 2 E8400.

What I want to do is re-use my SAMURAI-Z Rev.B cooler to save some dosh.

Apparently this is good for "Intel® Core™2 Duo processor (Conroe) ", but the E8400 is Wolfdale as far as I can tell.

So the question is, can this cooler cope with the E8400? And can I OC the CPU with this cooler??

Any pointers mucho appreciated.

  1. Sure, you can use it. Conroe and Wolfdale are both S775. It's not as good as the big vertical heat pipe models such as the Xig, Sunbeam, and Hyper 212, but you should be able to OC some. Just keep your load temps under 70 C.
  2. Cool! I had a gander at the Sythe Mugen 2, but that thing is massive and might block the 4th ram slot. Wonder why the Sythe spec only says Conroe? Maybe cos the Wolfdale wasn't out back then? That's what made me think...
