On new install xp home my hard drive is labelled h not c. whats up?

On a new xp home installation, my hard drive is labeled h, not c. Its a new

build biotech mobo X2 6000, and new wd640. Neighbor suggested usb's

should be disconnected at install as they cause improper drive letter

designations. Any suggestions?
