the mobo in my second PC (the spare friends etc use when they're round) has finally died, its left me with a:

Sapphire HD 2600XT 512MB GDDR3 VGA

and 4x512kb sticks of DDR-400 Corsair ram

also a hdd and periferals

so basically i'd like a replacement mobo and cpu for about £80

pref site is www.ebuyer.co.uk

(i'm guessing for that budget i can get a £25 mobo and a £55 dual core cpu?)

Is that really DDR-400 (not even DDR2)? I dont see any new motherboards that will run anything less than DDR2 RAM.

You may have another problem with the graphics card. Its hard to find motherboards with AGP slots so it may not be re-useable either.

Im not great with UK pricing. For $180 US you can get an AthlonIIx2, AM3 Motherboard with onboard video and 2GB DDR3 RAM.

There are no good intel CPUs (core 2 duo) below $100 US.

You have set yourself an impossible task. Going with integrated graphics is the cheapest option and the cheapest mobo and CPU on your selected website total GBP 78. No money left to buy memory and the old won't work.

edit: what about a "new" system for about £200? i guess somewhere between bargin and gamer (ok gfx £80, basic core 2 duo cpu £60, 2gb ddr2 800mhz £30 and motherboard £30.)?

hmmm, as i dont think i need a new PC yet (got an OC 8800GT and E8400 which should be fine with modern warfare 2) where would you suggest i look for old parts to get that PC working (Ebay or something)? are there any dual core CPUs of a previous generation that would fit motherboards with ddr and agp?

That would be socket 939 Toledos/Denmark cores on an AGP mobo but really i would ditch DDR altogether or stop pumping anymore $$ in such a platform if i could afford it ^^

yea, its kinda, do i spend £80 to get that platform up, £200 to get new ram and gfx as well as mobo and cpu or since i'm due for another £500 in 6 or so months for a new PC get £700 worth now?
