Will a 4670 run on 300W with 19A on the 12V?

I recently got into getting a better video card. I found out that the 4670 is probably the best thing I can get with my PSU. I have a Bestec 300W PSU and it says on the sticker +12V // 19A so I'm assuming I have 19 amps on the 12v rail. Only things that would be running along with the card would be my standard mobo, 3GB of DDR2(?) ram, Pentium D 2.8ghz (2 cpus), 1 sata HDD, and 1 DvD-Rom and 1 CD/DVD writer.

I plan on getting this card here.

And should I get the 512mb GDDR3 model or the 1GB DDR2 model? I saw that the GDDR3 model has an extra 200mhz of memory clock speed but the DDR2 model has more memory.

Bestec isn't a known brand to me, but the 4670 is actually pretty efficient running off just the PCI slot. The official recommended PSU is 400w, which is usually an inflated figure to compensate for low quality PSUs. Whether or not your PSU is too low of quality is really the deciding factor.

Here is a chart showing the consumption of a 4670 equipped system (with a C2Quad 9450) at 67 watts idle, 139 watts under load playing Crysis.

Personally, if it was my rig, I would be prepared to replace the PSU, but would try it anyway. I would have to do this knowing the risk of a PSU failing and taking system components with it.

I found this discussion on the exact same scenario as you, bestec 300w PSU + 4670:

Get the DDR3 512mb model. The GPU wouldn't be able to make use of much more, and the DDR2 version cripples the performance compared to DDR3. The small price difference is worth it for DDR3, but not for the 1gb model, imo.

Thanks for your reply. Guess I'll be getting the 512MB version.

Thanks everyone.
