Hello,
printing from dos program from cpu with only usb port and usb driven printer is a big problem to dos programs. this should be addressed by the printer manufacturer on how dos programs can use usb printer as the parallel port on board on cpu new release is scarce and may be phased out.

the suggested solution is to print the dos printing job to a file and run third party software.

this is not a good practice as it is not automatic printing similar to a dot matrix printer. the best solution is make the printing job sent to the usb printer without passing through a third party software.

it should operate similar to dos to dot matrix printer without any stopover.

can anybody with through knowledge of this problem. surely the vast dos users will be happy to put your suggestion in practice.

Solution

USB > Parallel hardware adaptor.

i think the answer did not fit in to the problem. take the following facts:
1. the os is windows xp
2. the cpu has no parallel port but usb port only.
3. the printer which is hp advantage has no parallel port but only usb port
4. the printing job under dos program can not be sent to the hp printer even if the cpu and printer is connected with usb cable.

the usb to parallel converter is not a solution as there is no parallel port and we should be prepared that ultimately parallel port at the cpu will be phased out in due time.
HOW CAN THIS BE SOLVED?

please take note that there is parallel port at the cpu and the printer and therefore this usb to parallel adaptor is not a solution. could there be another alternative?
