I assumed the 3770k would definitely be better (even if it isn't much) but now I'm reading reports there is more heat. So in the end, what would be the best?

2600K is still a beastly CPU, and its price will drop when Ivy Bridge is released. If you need the best and newest, you might want to get the 3770K, just because it is an upgrade, although small, to the 2600k. If you were getting either processors, though, you would definitely want to get an aftermarket cooler, since the whole purpose for the "k" would be to overclock it. So with that in mind, I don't know that heat should be too much of a factor in your decision. But that is interesting, because I've not heard anything about it producing way more heat.
