hello all, I have a HP DV6000, it is my work computer... I got it used because I am new to the office.... When I plug it into the network at work via ethernet the computer works just fine and recognizes an internet conection. However I brought the computer home and wireless does not work, I had not tested it out before. The colegue who had this computer before me also experienced the broken wireless and from what I've read, HP has serious issues with this...Orange light is stuck on no matter which side the switch is on...

However, when I plug in an ethernet cable at home it is also not recognized by the computer... yet it works fine at work... and I cannot get onto the internet... I know it is not he network here because I have had this router for 2 years and it works fine on everyother computer, console, phone in the house....

If someone could please help it would be greatly appreciated.

thank you for replying,

the switch is broken, no matter which way i toogle it, wireless stays off. From what i've read the mobo in this computer has a really high failure rate causing my wireless problems.. however this does explain my wired problems

ok

if your pc works at "work" and doesnt at home..

its the cable, or the router..

plug in another laptop from a friend to double confirm

then replace the cable or the hub

installing drivers will not help as it works "at work "

HP DV6000's are an absolute nightmare... loads of issues and the wireless card is one...

A replacement wireless card is whats needed .

The ethernet cord is fine. I use it for online gaming with my ps3 and works fine with my home computer.
The strange thing is when I unplug the cable from the computer at home it says 'local area cable unplugged' (something along those lines) so it recognized it being attached but when I open firefox or IE it doesnt allow me to use the internet.

I think you have and ip address issue..

does it say unable to connect to network or invalid ip address..

ok
what router is it..

secondly

what version of windows is it.. this will cut back time..

if its xp

click on the following

start
control panel or settings then control panel
then double click network connections
right click on local area connection
select properties

take a note of the ip address etc etc you may need these for work. write down all the numbers ie 192.168.0.1 - etc make sure u put the dots in the right place

find and select tcp/ip ( double click) and make sure obtain an ip address is sleceted automatically and obtain DNS server address automatically.

bingo should work

this is simular to vista and xp
