Bios not detecting hard drive

I formatted my hard drive and now it doesnt show up in the bios....It says unknown device....I am needing to install xp on it so can anyone helo me out please...........

hmm almost the same as my problem.
i'm using compaq lappy. i've formatted and unsuccessfully install the new OS.
it said something is missing, cannot install the OS.
i took out the dvd boot.
then, the bios cant detect my dvd rom.
i cant install the new OS.
