A shop to which i went says he has only DDR2 4670. Should i buy that or 9500 GT 512 MB DDR3 or 4650 1 GB DDR2. Isn't a 512 MB enough for all these cards. Pls Help.
Thanks

Any reason you can not order online? A 4670 should be much faster than a 9500GT but I dont know about a DDR2 version.....the memory is 800mhz vs ~2000mhz for a GDDR3 version. That has to cripple it. Same with a 4650...

You are correct in that these cards can not use 1gb of memory of any type. Anything over 512mb is a marketing gimmick.

Many are the reasons. Primarily i have never ordered online. Also i am blowing my parent's money.
I guess if 4650 is faster than ddr3 9500 gt more so should be 4670, aint it so?
Thanks for the reply.

Ordering online has the following advantages:

1. Usually cheaper
2. More choices

If your parent are not willing to order online, then I guess you have no other choice.

A HD 4670 with DDR2 RAM is somewhat handicapped, but I believe it is still more powerful than a 9500GT with DDR3.

1GB of RAM means nothing for a card such as the ones you listed because they are too slow to take advantage of it. Stick with 512MB, if priced the same, then sure go for the 1GB version.

If you can't order online at all then you should find a different store that has a normal 4670 with GDDR3. GDDR2 will cripple it big time.

Hey Sayug,

Unfortunately I can't find any benchmarks or anything referring to an HD 4670 being made with 512MB G/DDR2 memory. At the time the HD 4670 was made there was a transition to G/DDR3 (the card had versions with both as they provided the same performance) because it cost the same price and provided better performance. I'd say the guy is trying to sell you an HD 4650. Secondly, a regular HD 4670 (with 512MB DDR3) would outperform a 9500GT by 100% or more. You'll see the performance is at or above that of the 9600 GSO. I'd recommend either finding another outlet to buy your hardware from (Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, etc. that can provide more selection as long as the prices are okay) or do some detective work to make sure that it's really an HD 4670 in which case, if true, it's going to perform lower and is worth less than the price of a regular on -- don't let the guy overcharge you, regardless if it's your money, you could take it elsewhere and get better.

Thanks guys, for your swift response.
I finally got my hands on ATI 4670.
Prob is that its 1 GB 'cause only thats available here. (isn't the memory clock and bandwidth somewhat lower than that of 512 MB)
I got ddr3 version(it doesn't say gddr3-any big difference )
Also i got it at somewhat a high price-$86(4300 rs) and more over its xfx.
once again thanks guys.

The extra memory is pointless for that card but I don't see it being a problem as long as it's DDR3

It is not a problem you got the 1gb version and it can actually help a few percent in some benchmarks but in general 4650/4670 range of cards do not have the power to make use of 1gb.

DDR3 version is fine. GDDR3 is better overall because it runs at less voltage so runs cooler and at higher clock speeds. GDDR3 was designed specifically for graphics cards. You really are good with the DDR3 version just stay away from the DDR2.

This what you got? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... $74 from newegg and no free shipping so around $80 shipped.

Looks like you have 1600mhz memory and the GDDR3 versions have 1746. You can probably overclock too.

The xfx card is exactly what i have . HD-467x-DDf2.

But somewhere i read any graphics card has GDDR3 and if its written DDR3 , its a mistake . I was not so sure abt it. Now i know there is a difference. Anyway this is my first GPU and am very happy.
Thanks once again guys.

DDR and GDDR are fairly interchangable terms on graphics cards. Your card will have GDDR3.

lol. no offence but it is better for you to start new thread if you want to ask some question not hijacking other people thread or digging up past relic :D

joking aside, i haven't seen 4670 with DDR2. i believe most 4670 equipped with GDDR3. performance wise 4670 (GDDR3) will be well ahead of 9500GT with DDR2. 4670 is on par with 9600GSO though 9600GSO will use more power but also a bit more faster than 4670. maybe you should look for 5670 or 6670 which is better performing card and have better driver support than HD4k series
